A soft parcel waited at the Cloud Bakery. Its label said: FOR SOMEONE WHO NEEDS A REST.
“Who could that be?” Comet asked.
Maya read the smaller words below. LOOK FOR A YELLOW RIBBON.
They walked with the baker through the station garden. The first ribbon they saw was blue. It tied up a bundle of flowers.
The next ribbon was green. It fluttered from the conductor’s hat.
Then they found a yellow ribbon on a little bench. Beside it sat Ada the owl, rubbing her sleepy eyes.
“I sorted all the letters,” Ada said. “Now my wings need a break.”
The baker opened the parcel. Inside was a cloud-soft pillow.
Ada tucked it behind her back and settled onto the bench. Maya and Comet sat nearby without making a sound.
“Thank you for finding me,” Ada whispered.
Soon the only noise was the gentle turning of a leaf in the evening breeze.
