Pip learned to tie a bow on his picnic basket. His first bow fell apart. His second looked like a knot with a tail.
On his third try, two neat loops stayed in place.
“I did it!” he called.
Comet wanted a parade. The baker said the garden was a good place for a quiet little celebration.
Maya made a paper flag no bigger than her hand. Comet walked at the front. Pip carried his basket, and Nell followed at her own pace.
They went from the porch to the apple tree. That was the whole parade.
Under the tree, Pip showed them his bow. He untied it and tried again. This time he needed a little help remembering the last step.
“That is all right,” Maya said. “You are still learning.”
Pip tied the loops once more. The flag fluttered beside him, celebrating his good try as much as his finished bow. The tiny parade had room for both.
